Rwanda Dance Party
You may have seen them dancing "Thriller" in the Sunken Gardens, or perhaps stumbled into one of their jam-packed classes at Santa Barbara Dance Center; either way, if you've been in town for the past four years, chances are you've come across World Dance for Humanity.
Started in 2010 as a way of fusing humanitarian aid with passion for movement, World Dance for Humanity (WD4H) soon morphed into its current manifestation: a gathering of women from all abilities and backgrounds, dancing over a common desire to get in shape and make a difference. Over the years, WD4H has raised more than $100,000 for charitable projects at home and overseas, most recently in Eastern Africa. Hardly content to observe from the outside, however, this remarkable group put their dancing feet where their money is: and in June, seven women made the journey of a thousand steps (and more than twenty hours of plane travel) all the way to Rwanda.
This Wednesday, see what this group is all about. Find out what makes World Dance for Humanity stand out. Hear stories from Rwanda, and shake a leg (or two, or three) as Janet Reineck and Jenna Tico walk (dance) you through the heart of what their group is all about bridging communities to heal ourselves and our world, one booty-shaking day at a time.
POTLUCK starts at 7:30pm. What are you going to bring? Think globally.
Since our inception as the result of a collaboration in 2003, Fishbonartists, builders, engineers and performers have collaborated to bring more than fifty creative events, installations and performances to life. And we need your help to keep that beautiful string of projects alive. If you have an idea that you want to develop further, want to work with others on a project, or would be willing to help organize a project this year, click on the Collaborative Project Madness banner above and tell us how you want to be part of the next adventure.
