Dress Up, Live Now
Events have always been an important part of Fishbon. We've done large scale themed pieces with installations, performances and awesome environments. And we've done small, specialized concerts and lectures. What do you like? What would you like to see more of? What would you be interested in helping to make possible?

Hey Everyone,
Here's the tentative list of events we talked about at the Vision Quest retreat on the 15th:
Spring Event (weekend of 4/30)
I'm thinking of doing a puppet fiesta in conjunction with something love/courtship related maybe. We have 4 months to do this one
Burning Man (week of 8/29-9/3)
Whatever we plan to do in conjunction with BM. 4 months after spring event
Halloween (weekend of 10/29)
Usual Halloween madness could involve performances, installations, etc. 8 weeks from Burning Man
Fishmas II (weekend of 12/9)
Annual update of last year. Includes vendors and possibly second take on Fishmas trees. 6 weeks from Halloween.
New Year's Eve 2012 (12/31)
Could be a Fishbon event or subcontracted to a cell or other producer. Prep could begin now. 3 weeks from Fishmas.
Obviously the lead times get crazier as we get into fall, but if different crews take on different projects and we start thinking about the entire series now, I think we can pull them off. Everything but Burning Man adds revenue to the general fund. Last year the projects we did were sweet, but the way they were set up didn't really add much to support the daily operating costs of Fishbon. This would be a significant experiment in the other direction.
Permalink Reply by Kristen Joy on January 28, 2011 at 11:32am Awesome! So glad this is set up virtually so I can catch up, even though it hasn't been possible to make the visioning meetings recently. I LOVE the idea of having more events/performances. I also have really loved the events (like Wildebeast and Halloween last year) where mainstage performances were woven into a night of dancing/music.
I'm also super excited about the idea of various performance troupes. For instance, having even small groups of 4-5 people who focus on a vaudeville-something-or-other that could be adapted and even repeated (especially if it is hilarious) in a number of settings. Or clowns/magicians who master various tricks to be performed along with different kinds of crowds. Clown brigade? Vaudeville vagabonds? Burlesque cell, anyone???!
Permalink Reply by sara anna fenu on January 26, 2011 at 7:46pm music is always a good choice ---> something you can't quite go wrong with either. although, i am not a musician or a singer, or even a preformer @ that, i do enjoy listen to music still - like most - both new talent and old talent too. i have no ideas if i am even going in the direction meant here for this forum, forgive me if i am not. if all is still good, then what i wish to see is (1) night a wk or mnth( whatever?) --- any night too, just pick a night that works best, but stick with it so ppl can plan on it and they can count on that particular day as well because of the consistency. it give them something to look forward to and the word will get around quickly.
seriously tho, who doesn't like listen to live music?... the best part of this all, is that this is also a way for fishbon to give a helping hand to such musician who are maybe stepping out or simply trying to break through.
IF fishbon can make this possible for such artist, it will no doubt be a great investment in return --- no one ever forgets that person, or persons in this case, who gave them that (1) chance or opportunity to shine or even something as simply as just believing enough in them to give them that moment they have worked so hard for. i guess you could compare this to an alumni of a university ---> these are the usually the biggest supporters who give back the school they attended and that also made them the success that they are today, no? i hope this is even making sense.
know that i am still very green here @ fishbon -- with that, my apologies IF you do already have such a thing started. anyways, it was just an idea i thought i would share. thank you if you are still reading this. i do believe that not only would this be a really cool and fun thing, it could grow into something much bigger !! best ~ s.
